About Riverside Mattress Company

Riverside Mattress Company is a wholesale mattress manufacturer selling to the retail furniture and bedding trade.

Charlie Cain established Riverside Mattress Company in 1933 and later his son, Odus Cain, joined him in the business. For many years, Odus Cain continued to expand the business. In 1996, Mr. Cain sold his business to the employees, and Riverside Mattress Company became an ESOP (employee owned) company. Under the ESOP plan, William T. Allen, CPA became the president of Riverside Mattress Company. For the prior 12 years, he was the CPA for the company.

The Company has 13 established routes in the North and South Carolina areas with deliveries made on a bi-weekly basis. Our sales staff visits our customers every other week with delivery made within a two to three day period.

Utilizing our warehouse capacity allows us to stock most items, which gives our customers the option to keep a lower inventory and to pick up from our warehouse as needed.

Riverside Mattress Company has 30-35 employees who work a five day week most of the year. The employees enjoy two weeks of vacation every year and most holidays.

Riverside Mattress Company has been the economic alternative to the national brands since 1933.

An ESOP Company

An ESOP, or employee stock ownership plan, is an employee benefit plan which makes the employees beneficial owners of stock in that company. Several features make ESOPs unique as compared to other employee benefit plans. For example, only an ESOP is required by law to invest primarily in the securities of the sponsoring employer. Today, Riverside Mattress Company is 100% owned by the ESOP with 100% of eligible employees participating in the ESOP.

What we are trying to do at Riverside Mattress Company is to build a business with a culture based on mutually beneficial partnerships...partnerships between the company and its employees, its customers, and its suppliers; partnerships that bring together people who have similar values, similar work ethics, and similar goals; and partnerships that can achieve extraordinary results.
